Stay in. Make a night of it.
Six ideas for an evening at home, from a tasting game to the next meal you learn to cook.

Clear the table, choose a start time, and put the everyday tasks aside. An at-home date works best when it has one thing to look forward to. These are self-directed ideas you can adapt to what you have, how much you want to spend, and the evening you need.
Cook the sequel to your class
After a Sur La Table or Eataly class, choose one recipe to repeat together. Split the tasks, set the table before cooking, and compare the result with what you learned. If you have not taken a class, use a recipe you already trust.
Make a three-sample tasting
Choose three chocolates, cheeses, teas, or sparkling drinks. Cover the labels, write down first impressions, and reveal your favorites at the end. Set a total shopping budget so the idea stays as simple as you intended.
Turn dinner into a travel night
Pick a place you would like to visit, cook one dish associated with it, and choose music or a film for the evening. Each bring one place you would want to see and decide what would make the trip feel like yours.
Draw each other, badly and enthusiastically
Set a ten-minute timer and draw a portrait without aiming for realism. Swap the finished work, give it a title, and find the detail you like most. Paper and whatever you can draw with are enough.
Choose a double feature with a rule
Let each person choose a short film or episode around one shared theme. Put phones aside while watching, then make a snack break the time to compare favorites. Agree on the finishing time before pressing play.
Build a memory dinner
Recreate part of an early date, cook a family favorite, or choose a meal linked to a trip. Bring one photo or story to the table and finish by choosing something you want to do together next.
Turn the idea into a plan.
